Dear sis, I’m a lover of all things music. Old school, new school — Hip hip, Gospel and R&B... I love it all! Especially the classics. One of my all time favorites is "Man in the Mirror" by Michael Jackson. “I'm starting with the man in the mirror... I'm asking him to change his ways"

I’ve been singing those words forever, but only recently took the time to dissect what they mean. Well, earlier this week a friend posted a quote that put MJ’s words into perspective:

“Be sure your worst enemy doesn’t live between your own two ears.” - L. Hamilton- WOW!... talk about a reality check! The words were so transformative they stuck with me for days, and had me thinking about the power of our own minds. Think about it: I’m sure we’ve all had moments where we wanted to completely give up. Work, relationships and the hustle and bustle of life got the best of us. Well after reading Hamilton’s words, I realized how much our mindset plays a role in our outcome. The challenges we face aren’t always about the detail of circumstance; It’s more so about the way we react internally to frustration, fear and insecurity. I can recall moments of being fully capable of achieving certain goals, yet I made myself believe that I couldn’t. Sure enough, anxiety set in — and, before long my mind and body fell in line with my negativity. So, take it from someone who’s been there: - Be careful about how you speak to yourself. - Be mindful of your own words and thoughts because the way we feed ourselves, both positively and negatively, can impact the person we become. Even in joking, we can sometimes subconsciously internalize our words and therefore, they become real. Our minds will either propel us or hold us back, depending on what we feed it. This gives us even more reason to practice positive affirmations. Even if we don’t believe those words just yet — pretty soon we will.

Our greatest source of encouragement dwells within us. So fill your mind with ALL the good stuff... things like strength, love peace & hope! XoXO, Lo
