Don't let her fool you!

January 29, 2018

Dear Sis,

I want to introduce you to a friend of mine.

She's gorgeous inside and out. She's a social butterfly and everyone LOVES her. She's successful, gives the BEST advice and never asks for help. She's as cool as a cucumber, and when she walks into a room, you can't help but notice her. She's a visionary, well-organized and carries confidence on her shoulders.

She's a boss, I tell you. A BAWSE.

She's warm and always gives to others. She has a great sense of humor and everyone... and, I mean EVERYONE wants to be in her circle. She's well dressed and knows what it takes to tackle a challenge.

She wins at everything she does, and anyone who is anyone wants a piece of her expertise.
You probably know her. I mean -- she's pretty well known.

She's likely your mom, your best friend, your mentor or your colleague... In fact, she may be YOU.

The strong one... The one who seemingly has it all together... The one who everyone looks up to.

But, don't let homegirl fool you. As much as she seems to be effortlessly independent, she is far from it.

She -- like everyone else -- has fears and anxieties, and the need for unwavering support.
She may be the strongest woman you know, but don't allow her resilient demeanor to disguise her need for you.

Strength comes at a cost. And, while it's a blessing to be leaned on, it's also a burden. It takes diligence and exhaustion to achieve and exceed the standards set before us by relationships, our families and careers.

So, check on her every once in a while. Reach out to her even when you aren't looking for her guidance. Show her that you appreciate her tenacity, and you'll go out of your way to return the favor.

And, if you are her  -- do me a favor: open up a little. Allow yourself to be vulnerable around those who genuinely care about you.

No -- it won't be easy. There are so many people relying on your strength that it's difficult to reveal your weakness. I get it... I've been there! And, I'd be lying if I told you I don't still struggle with this.

But, I've learned from my self-neglect, and trust me -- in the end, you will be stronger, wiser and have a peace that will only push you to carry on!

Until next time,

V
